Not Nobel Gases, as far as I remember from high school... Ahh... Bad ol' highschool, the only place you learned to sleep sitting up.

Helium is a noble gas.

And I don't recomend playing with liquid neon...

I meant AS a gas, not in any other form.

Oh. I still don't recommend playing with noble gases in any state. I also would avoid Fluorine, as it can be toxic.

Though it would be kinda hard to do any real "work" on a neutron star, with its slightly higher than normal gravitational pull.

Master's Degree for Physics = 4 years undergrad, 2 year post grad.

My current 2 Degrees:
Bachelor's Degree in General Physics (working on first year masters)
Bachelor's Degree in Theoretical Mathematics
Wow, that put me to shame. I thought I was taking hard classes... I am a chemistry nerd, so I took college level Chemistry 1 & 2 last year (sophomore), and I'm taking Organic Chem as a Junior. But calculus in the 7th grade?! That is insane... I'm currently taking it as a junior, and it is kicking my ass.

Back on topic though, that is a real shame. Too bad you might be 21 when you get your graduate degree (cuz that is so old).

Good luck getting back on track

P.S. Theoretical Mathematics... remind anyone of Gordon Freeman? Well, actually I think he was Theoretical Physics, but whatever.

Zehly, hats off to you!

You're starting to remind me of myself in some ways- only much smarter!

My mathematical analysis professor at UC Berkeley wanted me to double in mathematics, but I just wanted to just finish off my bachelor's in physics and start working. So, after graduating, I went straight into research. I had planned to get back into academics but my nose pulled me towards my other interest in illustration and industrial design (kinda whacky, huh?)

So, while I was working at LBL, I submitted a portfolio to the Academy of Arts College in San Francisco, and they let me to skip the first 2 years of an illustration and design degree (the only time I could ever boast about "skipping" classes). I dropped out after a year - only because I changed my mind about a future in design. (My experience in freelance design is what convinced me.) After that came medical school. That one was a looooong road, but here I am - and I love it!

Recently, I dusted off my old copy of Rudin, Principles of Mathematical Analysis (a classic) and read from chapter 1 - After almost 20 years (happy birthday!) it's like a foreign language to this old dusty brain.
You, on the other hand, will go far in the field, I'm sure.

BTW - why did you put "telecommunications" as your profession?

not the only place, you learn it in the army as well (not in the american tough, I'd guess)

I was absolutely thrilled when we got our new kevlar vests, because that meant sleeping on guard duty would be more comfortable - you can use the collar of the vest as a cushion for your head...

That has got to suck! Liquid hydrogen is very cold indeed. Liquid helium is like superfluid. I'm sure they had to be kept in different types of container and perhaps even generated in situ. I haven't really handled these. Intriguing experiment.

Did you hear about the 36 military dolphins that got loose into the Gulf of Mexico when Katrina hit? Apparently they're trained patrol areas around Trident submarines armed with poison darts.

Just heard that on the way in this morning. They're trained to kill and locate "terrorists" in the water. Gulf coastal people... you may want to stay out of the ocean a while. The military is confirming the dolphins being freed but won't confirm whether or not they're armed.

You know what that means.

Well here's an update. It's amazing what happened really. Someone is looking out for me. Yesterday before I left for work, the Lead physicist here at school asked me to be his sole assistant in "an unplanned, important experiment". Having such an honor bestowed upon me, I eagerly agreed.

When I got into the lab this morning, I noticed that someone had replicated my setup. I said, "Hey! That's my experiment!" To which he replied, "Yes, and I'm going to be your assistant while you conduct it."

I am so happy
